The East Georgia State College Women’s Basketball Team started official Fall practice on September 21 and are eagerly looking forward to their first live competition on Friday, October 23. The team will travel to Brunswick, Georgia, to face the College of Coastal Georgia.
“Energy in practice has been high and the talent on the team will make games fun to watch this season,” said Head Coach Theo Howard.
Howard is in his first year at the helm of the women’s basketball program, which returns some key pieces from last year including Ka’Shay Hankerson, the reigning leading scorer in the GCAA Conference, and Kayla Garrett, currently the 17th ranked rebounder in the country. Some other key returners are Esperanza “Espi” Castro, the floor general; Hallia Carl, the defensive specialist; and Ke’Tara Trappio, the enforcer.
The team also features some talented newcomers like Talia Hamilton, Amber Gilbert, Destinee Ellison, Milana Holmes, Nekiya Booker, and several more.
The team reached the conference semi-finals last year and Coach Howard is hoping to build upon the great work of his predecessor Warren Goosby.
The first home game for the Lady Bobcats will be November 13 when they host Point University.
