EGSC to plant tree during Arbor Day ceremony

On Tuesday, February 18, 2020, East Georgia State College will host an Arbor Day Celebration on their Swainsboro campus. The celebration will begin at 11 a.m. and will feature the planting of a tree at Ezra Pond. The tree will be dedicated to Danny Vaughn, a former EGSC employee of Plant Operations.

Vaughn was a 24-year career employee of the college, working from March 1988 until his retirement on December 1, 2012.  He worked tirelessly with the landscape and grounds crew in Plant Operations and was very methodical in his approach to taking care of the campus landscape.  He was the expert shrub pruner and the campus appearance was indicative of his dedication to maintaining pristine grounds.  Vaughn would always take on whatever tasks were requested and always had a smile to offer to everyone.  He truly enjoyed his work at EGSC, and the campus was a better place because of him.  After retirement, he enjoyed his hobbies and traveling to visit with relatives.  He passed away unexpectedly in April of 2019.

This Arbor Day event is part of EGSC’s efforts as a Tree Campus USA recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation.  This program helps colleges and universities around the country establish and sustain healthy forests. At the event Dogwood, Willow Oak, Catalpa, and Swamp Chestnut tree seedlings will be given away for attendees to enjoy in their home gardens.

Please join EGSC for this special event!
