EGSC receives Motorola Solutions Foundation Grant

East Georgia State College recently was awarded a grant for $10,000 through the Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions, Inc. Through the grant, EGSC will be able to offer scholarships to qualified students enrolled in the Fire and Emergency Services Administration Bachelors Degree Program at the college.
“This is what we have needed for our FESA students,” said EGSC’s FESA Program Director Beverley Walker. “Many of our FESA students are non-traditional students, and are not going to apply for loans for their education, as many have families and households to support. This grant will allow them to continue their education with the ultimate goal of increasing the level of professionalism within the fire service.”
The Motorola Solutions Foundation awards grants each year to organizations, such as EGSC, which support and advance public safety programs and technology and engineering education initiatives. This year, programs that served underrepresented populations, such as women, people with disabilities, and veterans, were prioritized.
“EGSC is excited to partner with Motorola Solutions in this venture. Providing the resources that students need to succeed in the Fire and Emergency Services program will mean a better quality of life for the student and for the communities they serve in their profession,” said EGSC’s Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Elizabeth Gilmer. “We offer our sincere appreciation to Motorola for entrusting us with this opportunity.”
“Motorola Solutions Foundation is proud to support the work of East Georgia State College. As a leading technology company that supports the safety of communities worldwide, we know how important it is to educate tomorrow’s technology professionals, as well as enlighten civilians and first responders on today’s safety needs,” said Matt Blakely, executive director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation.
