EGSC Family & Friends Fun Day a huge success!

On Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, East Georgia State College held Family & Friends Fun Day at the Swainsboro campus, inviting the campus and community to enjoy free fun and games provided by the Office of Student Life, the EGSC Foundation, EGSC Athletics and the various clubs and organizations on campus.
The day kicked off with the Annual Bobcat Regatta, where teams constructed boats of duct tape and cardboard and attempted to either make it across Ezra Pond first or sink in the most spectacular manner. The Peter & Margie Shedd Overall Award was presented to the USS GA 1842 Trail Life – Walk Worthy, constructed by Hawhammock Baptist Church. The Peter & Margie Shedd Most Creative Award went to The Incredibles, constructed by the EGSC Student Government Association. The coveted Peter & Margie Shedd Titanic Award went to the Savage Bees, constructed by the EGSC STEMM Club.
Following the Regatta, attendees enjoyed different activities from the EGSC African American Union, Art Club, Circle K Club, Criminal Justice Club, International Club, Student Government Association, STEMM Club, the University System of Georgia and were even able to register to vote! There was also a trolley ride around campus featuring the Cadle Law Office Trolley, and a barrel train for kids as well. There was also a Make Your Own T-Shirt Booth and a booth from the EGSC Alumni Association.
A Sidewalk Chalk Contest was held in front of the Gym, with squares open for teams of two or single artists to show off their skills. Winning the contest were Makayla Wilder and Shawn Smith with their colorful sun and moon design. Second place went to Terrie Daniels and her inquisitive feline face. Third place went to Niara and Dorian Stephens for their spectacular seasonal design.
For those wanting to beat the heat, there was an inflatable slip-n-slide out front and Bubble Soccer in the gym for those feeling more adventurous.
During the afternoon, there was a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament in the gym, while a Kickball Tournament was held on the softball field. The winning team in the Kickball Tournament was the Kick-Ballers, featuring members Harlee Rewis, Johnathon Rewis, John Rewis, Jana Crews, Sam Cannon, Becca Blanton, Reese Stalvey, Alaina Lee, Gary Taylor, Bailey Howard, Taylor Morgan, Trisha Jennings, Alex Sublett and Quinton Jenkins.
The day also featured free hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks and chips from Student Life, the Foundation and Coca-Cola, cotton candy from the Swainsboro Jaycees, and snow cones from Sno-Biz of Vidalia. Other community participants included the U.S. Army Recruiting Center of Statesboro and the U.S. Marine Corps Recruiting Sub-Station of Statesboro.
