The East Georgia State College Men and Women’s basketball seasons are underway and the men’s and women’s Bobcats are looking as strong as they ever have.
The East Georgia State College women’s basketball team has started the season off with a 4 and 0 record. Under the leadership of Coach CJ Pace, formerly a University of South Carolina player, the Bobcats have started the season with the best record in school history for the women’s program at the beginning of a season. The Lady Bobcats’ winning ways come from the combination of young freshman talent combined with sophomore leadership.
The East Georgia State College men’s basketball program has a record of 3 and 3 on the young season under the leadership of veteran coach Leroy Jordan. Two of the losses were from one of the nation’s top-ranked teams, Spartanburg Methodist from South Carolina. The Bobcats played Spartanburg tough, but fell by single digits in both games. The Bobcats, however, knocked off 5 and 1 USC Salkehatchie on November 21 by a score of 71 to 63. They went on to compete in the South Georgia Thanksgiving Tournament last week, falling in both games by under five points.
The Bobcats are experiencing some the largest crowds at all home games, and Athletic Director Charles Wimberly commented on the Bobcats success, “We have great leadership in both our men and women’s basketball programs in Coach Jordan and Coach Pace, and we have developed a great reputation based around our coaching leadership. Our players now expect to win and compete each time we take the court, and therefore we are experiencing a lot of excitement around our programs.”
The Bobcats next take the court Wednesday against Brewton Parker College’s JV teams, with the women tipping off at 5:30 and the men at 7:30 p.m. For a full schedule, visit the Bobcats’ webpage at http://www.ega.edu/athletics.
