East Georgia State College’s American Government classes on the Augusta campus are learning more than government in their class. They are learning to give back to their community and people in need.
Robert Mullins, an Assistant Professor of Political Science, helps his American Government classes conduct a food drive every semester. Last fall, the classes raised 945 pounds of food for the Golden Harvest Food Bank. The amount of food the classes donated was equivalent to 788 meals!
“My American Government students have been conducting food drives since Fall 2018. Since that time, we have raised 3,481 pounds of food, which is equivalent to 2,903 meals,” said Mullins.
The food drive is held each semester to help out those in need. Mullins said approximately 87 students participated in the Fall. The students have also performed over 260 hours of community service.
