Dr. Jimmy Wedincamp, current Chair of the Biology Department, has been named Interim Dean of the School of Mathematics and Natural Science. Dr. Bob Brown, the current Dean, will retire effective December 31, 2015.
Dr. Wedincamp graduated with his associates degree from EGSC in 1988, then earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology from Georgia Southern University. He earned his Ph.D. in entomology from Louisiana State University. He served in the United States Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom and in the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Services Corps since 1998, and is a member of the Georgia Entomological Society, Georgia Academy of Science, the Altamaha River Keeper Association, Entomological Society of America and the Ogeechee River Valley Association. The Entomological Society of America recognizes Dr. Wedincamp as a Board Certified Entomologist (BCE) with a specialty in Medical and Veterinary Entomology.
Dr. Wedincamp has authored numerous publications and, in 2012, was named Distinguished Faculty of the Year in the Mathematics and Sciences Division of East Georgia State College. In 2013, he was recognized with the Georgia Southern University Department of Biology Distinguished Alumnus Award.
“East Georgia State College is proud to announce that Dr. Wedincamp will serve as Interim Dean of our School of Math and Natural Sciences,” said EGSC President Bob Boehmer. “He is one of our own, having earned his first college degree at East Georgia. Since returning to EGSC, he has excelled in teaching, research and leading our biology department. We are confident that the School of Math and Natural Sciences will continue to flourish under his leadership.”
