Dr. Wedincamp chosen as Executive Leadership Institute Scholar

Dr. Jimmy Wedincamp, East Georgia State College’s Dean of the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, was recently named to the University System of Georgia’s 2018-2019 Executive Leadership Institute (ELI). He is part of a group of 34 scholars recognizing 25 institutions, the Georgia Public Library Service and the University System Office.
The Education Leadership Institute is designed to enhance the scholars’ self-awareness, broaden their perspectives and build their social capital. During the next seven months, participants will engage in an intensive learning experience comprised of leadership challenges, coaching and opportunities that will expose them to leadership at the highest level throughout the USG.
As in previous years, the scholars will have the opportunity to participate in a change management project of their choice. However, USG Chancellor Steve Wrigley is asking each scholar to choose to be a part of the change already in progress on their campuses—the Comprehensive Administrative Review or the Momentum Year.
“Because the scholars will be actively engaged in change management and strategic thinking curricula as part of ELI, my hope is that you will be able to leverage this experience to benefit your campus in an ongoing, real-world change initiative,” Chancellor Wrigley wrote in his letter to the presidents of the University System of Georgia institutions.
To be eligible for the ELI, participants must have been employed for a minimum of three years in higher education, have consecutive positive evaluation ratings for the last three years, demonstrate potential based on the USG leadership competencies, hold a minimum of a master’s degree and any qualifications required for the next level position and hold a current title of Vice President, Chair, Dean, Executive Director (or equivalent) or higher.
Dr. Wedincamp has been a faculty member of East Georgia State College since 1999, serving as a professor of biology and previously as the inaugural Chair of the Department of Biology. He completed his Ph.D. at Louisiana State University and his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in biology at Georgia Southern University. He completed his Associate in Arts degree at East Georgia College. In 2013, he was awarded the Georgia Southern University Department of Biology Distinguished Alumnus Award. He serves as a mentor for students in the African American Male Initiative program and he is a G2C liaison leading EGSC’s effort to improve student performance in gateway courses. Dr. Wedincamp lives with his wife of 29 years, Dianna. She is an environmental consultant and property manager. He has two sons, Michael (age 28) and Jacob (age 23). He is the proud owner of four dogs and a cat and enjoys fishing, gardening, traveling, and time outdoors.
