On Monday, October 28, Dr. Brett Larson and Professor Daniel Mancill from East Georgia State College attended the Affordable Learning Georgia Grant Implementation and Kick-off Event at Middle Georgia State University’s Macon campus.
The purpose of this full day meeting was to train recent recipients of ALG grants. The meeting featured presentations by experts on open educational resources and accessible learning materials and presentations by representatives from presses that publish open educational materials such as OpenStax and University of North Georgia Press.
Larson and Mancill are part of a team of five full-time political science professors (the others are Dr. Lee Cheek, Dr. Tom Caiazzo, and professor Robert Mullins) that recently received an Affordable Learning Georgia Scaling Up Textbook Transformation Grant. The political science professors will use this grant to redesign all sections of POLS 1101 taught by full-time faculty to use free resources instead of expensive, traditional textbooks. Larson and Mancill will transmit the information they learned at the meeting to the other members of the grant team.
