East Georgia State College Professor of Biology Dr. David Chevalier has been named the Interim Dean of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. He has been a professor at EGSC since 2013, joining the college from Mississippi State University. During his time at EGSC, he has served on multiple task forces and committees for the betterment of the college and is very involved in the local community.
Dr. Chevalier earned his Bachelor of Science in Plant Biology and Physiology from the University of Tours, France; his Masters degree in Plant Biology from the University of Montpellier, France; and his Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Zurich, Switzerland.
“We are so pleased that Dr. Chevalier has agreed to serve as the interim dean of mathematics and natural sciences. He is a natural leader who possesses a phenomenal work ethic, a dedication to the College, an eye for detail, a talent for management, and a willingness to assist,” said Dr. Sandra Sharman, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs. “Dr. Chevalier has transitioned into this position and begun to actively oversee the operations of the school. East Georgia State College will continue to benefit from his expertise.”
In Chevalier’s new role as Interim Dean of Math and Science, he will manage the day-to-day operations of the School of Math and Sciences; supervise division faculty and staff; work closely with other deans, faculty members, and instructional staff to ensure overall quality of the academic program; serve on the President's Cabinet, Academic Policies and Curriculum Committee, Senior Staff, and other standing and special committees.
“My main goals as the Interim Dean of the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences are to further the success accomplished by Dr. Wedincamp by increasing the enrollment and graduation rates for the STEM and Nursing programs and student learning,” said Dr. Chevalier.
During his time at EGSC, Dr. Chevalier was named the Distinguished Faculty of the Year for Math and Sciences in 2016, was selected for the Executive Leadership Institute in 2019 and completed the EGSC Staff Leadership Development Program.
