A leadership scholarship was established at East Georgia State College in 2005 by Linda Dekle Lamb and the late David Lamb of Swainsboro. The annual scholarship, named the Dekle-Lamb/Kiwanis/Circle K Scholarship, is awarded to the president of the East Georgia State College Circle K Club.
The EGSC Circle K Club, sponsored by the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club, adopted the goal of service to students from the club’s inception. The Circle K Club is the campus student version of the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club. The advisor of Circle K is Jordyn Nail.
David Lamb, a long-time member of the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club, was a PREP Coordinator at EGC (now EGSC) in the late 90’s. Linda Dekle Lamb also served in the late 90’s as an EGSC Vision Series Coordinator and is also a member of Kiwanis.
The Dekle-Lamb/Kiwanis/Circle K Club Scholarship was presented this year to Heather Correll of Swainsboro. The daughter of Aaron Correll, owner of the Edenfield House in Swainsboro, Heather is a sophomore at East Georgia State College majoring in geology. Heather is the first female at the college to major in geology.
Heather is the president of Circle K Club at EGSC. She works in the Academic Center for Excellence at the college and is a member of the Chess Club, Drama Club, and the Creative Writing Club. Heather is a graduate of APW High School in Parish, New York.
“I am so very honored to be awarded the Dekle-Lamb/Kiwanis/Circle K Club Scholarship. I also would like to thank my dad for inspiring me to enroll at EGSC. After graduating from EGSC, I plan to continue on with my geology degree and in the future work in the area of cosmochemistry, the study of cosmic gases and their composition in the universe,” stated Heather.
The first Dekle-Lamb/Kiwanis/Circle K Club Scholarship was awarded to the 2004-2005 President of Circle K, Angela Cable, a graduate of Jefferson County High. Since that beginning Angelica Bowers of Metter, Kristy Parker of Stillmore, Julie Scott of Twin City, and Hayley Chester of Soperton, all Circle K Presidents, have been awarded scholarships.
“I am so delighted to honor the memory of my late husband, David Lamb, the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club, and the Circle K Club, through this scholarship to deserving students at EGSC,” commented Linda Dekle Lamb.
