The Columbia County Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Rob Nordan, will be the featured entertainment at the Fourth Annual Patriotic Concert at East Georgia State College. Scheduled for Monday, June 30, the free performance, “A Celebration of Community and Country,” will be held at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Luck Flanders Gambrell Center. The celebration will also include a free cookout at 5:30 p.m. in the rotunda of the Gambrell Center. The Annual Patriotic Concert and cookout is hosted by East Georgia State College and is free and open to the public.
Maestro Nordan founded the Columbia County Orchestra Association (CCOA) in February 2008, to promote the musical arts and foster music appreciation, while also providing an outlet for musicians to express their musical talents in and around the CSRA (Central Savannah River Area). The CCOA is the parent organization of the Columbia County Civic Orchestra (CCCO) and the Columbia County Youth Orchestra (CCYO). The instrumentalists come from across the area including the counties: Columbia, Richmond, Aiken, Lincoln, McDuffie, Emanuel, and Toombs.
Instrumentalists from the Emanuel County area include Robert Agress, Jonathon Scott, and Bill Sasser. Maestro Nordan and his wife Elizabeth Nordan, also have connections with Emanuel County.
Maestro Nordan received his Bachelor of Music in 1978, and his Master of Music in 1982. His first private trumpet instruction was through his father, Clarence Nordan, Jr. Maestro Nordan has been active professionally in church music, conducting, and music teaching since 1974. He has studied conducting under Robert Burton, Donald Portnoy, and Florin Totan. The Nordans have resided in Augusta since 1996.
Please plan to join your friends and neighbors at EGSC for the free celebration and patriotic music by CCO.
