Bobcat Softball continues winning ways on softball diamond!

The East Georgia State College Lady Bobcats Softball Team continued their winning ways on Thursday, February 27 at Savannah State University, by defeating the Savannah State JV team by a score of five to three in game one and six to three in game two. The two victories in Savannah gives the Bobcats a six-game winning streak.

The Bobcats were led on the mound in game one by Madison Poole. She gave up just one earned run in five innings of work, with Payten Strickland getting the save.

At the plate in game one against Savannah State, the Bobcats were led by Casey Sims who scored two runs from her lead-off position, with Alana Hooks hitting two doubles and one single in game one. Jana Crews, Olivia Christian, and Stephanie Ruffin each had two hits for singles to help the Bobcats pull out the victory in game one by a score of 5 to 3.

Game two would see the bobcat Casey Sims go three for three at the plate scoring two runs. Alana Hooks, Jana Crews, Reese Stalvey, Mina Watkins and Haley Taylor all had singles to help the Bobcats score six runs.

Madison Bussell would pitch five innings with three earned runs allowed. Payten Strickland came in to close the deal for the Bobcats and give them the second victory on the night.

“It was great to finally get on the field and play after a week of rainouts,” said head coach Chuck Wimberly. “Our team played really well on the road Thursday. Makenzie Wilkerson did really well at catcher for us throwing out several potential runners for Savannah, and we played really good defense, committing just three errors in 14 innings of work.”

Wimberly added, “our bats were not as alive as I would have liked for them to be but considering that we had not played or seen live pitching in 12 days, we did really well I thought.”

The Bobcats will be on the road this weekend at USC Union on Saturday, February 29, and USC Salkehatchie on Sunday, March 1. Both games have start times of 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
