Head Baseball Coach Matt Passau, EGSC

Swainsboro, Georgia- For the first time in East Georgia Baseball history, a new face will be at the helm of the program. Since starting the program in the spring of 2010, Bobcat Baseball has been led by Chuck Lusted, but as of November 2, 2014, former Assistant Coach Matthew Passauer will be named Interim Head Coach.
Lusted was named Head Coach at East Georgia on December 1, 2009 when the program was created. He played an integral role in the development of the college’s baseball field, along with the program in its entirety. Although Coach Lusted has relocated to Atlanta, his legacy as the man who laid the foundation for Bobcat Baseball will never be forgotten.
Matthew Passauer, an Erie, Pennsylvania native worked directly under Coach Lusted as Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator during the 2013-14 baseball season. Before East Georgia, Passauer played collegiate baseball at the University of Maryland and Lee University. During his time at Lee, Passauer played a key role as a relief pitcher on the number one nationally ranked team, and competed in the College World Series two consecutive seasons.
In addition to Passauer’s time under Coach Lusted at East Georgia, he also spent the summer coaching in the Northwoods League for the Willmar Stingers. This experience gave him the opportunity to coach some of the top ranked college baseball players in the nation. This summer, the Stingers broke the team’s single season record for wins, ERA, and stolen bases. When asked about his time at Willmar, Passauer said “This summer was an unbelievable experience. I had the opportunity to work with and learn from the Head Coach Drew Saberhagen and an incredible front office. My time with the Stingers taught me valuable coaching skills that I am excited to bring to East Georgia”.
Passauer believes the future is bright for Bobcat Baseball. “We have a great group of guys this year. We’ve put in a lot of quality work this fall and I look forward to an extremely competitive spring”.
The Bobcats wrap up their fall with the Green and Gold World Series on November 10th, 11th, 14th, and 15th. EGSC looks forward to the community coming out to support Coach Matthew Passauer and the EGSC Bobcats this season.
