Goosby appointed EGSC head women’s basketball coach

After five years as an assistant coach and skills trainer for both men and women’s basketball and one year as the interim head women’s basketball coach, Warren Goosby has been officially named the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at East Georgia State College.

A student of the game who began coaching at the high school level in 2002 while completing his undergraduate degree, Goosby also played professional and semi-professional basketball before beginning his career in education as a high school English teacher.  He transitioned from his career in secondary education to post-secondary, working for Savannah State University and Georgia Southern University.  This is also when he began volunteering with East Georgia State College Men’s Basketball.

“East Georgia State College is honored that Coach Goosby has accepted this key role as out head women’s basketball coach. His experience in higher education and student success in combination with his extensive basketball experience as a player and as a men’s and women’s coach qualifies him uniquely,” said EGSC President Dr. Bob Boehmer. “Coach Goosby’s leadership will assure that our student athletes grow as students, as citizens and as basketball players. Our women’s basketball team will represent our college well as they travel across Georgia and Florida during the regular season. I am confident, also, that they will again reach the state playoffs and complete for a championship under Coach Goosby’s leadership.”

Goosby’s basketball I.Q. and ability to teach the game has caused him to be a sought-after coach and trainer, and his ability to relate and communicate with student-athletes has helped him recruit athletes that have gone on to play Division I Basketball.

“I am excited for the chance to play a role in the development of student-athletes here at East Georgia State College,” said Goosby. “The demographic that we serve is very similar to my own background, so it means a great deal to me and I am honored that our A.D. Mr. Wimberly and President Boehmer believe in me and have given me this opportunity.  I consider myself a player’s coach with a foundation in the fundamentals of the game and this season we will pride ourselves on playing defense, getting up and down the court with tenacity, and sharing the ball.”
