Bobcat Baseball earns new school record, Softball closes 2018 season

On April 27, 2018, the East Georgia State College Bobcat Baseball team traveled to Rome to play Georgia Highlands, making a clean sweep and winning all five games this week. The Bobcats set a new school record on Friday, April 27, 2018 with an impressive seven homeruns hit in a single game. They took that game 15 to 7 and won Saturday’s games 2 to 1 and 13 to 10. The Bobcats traveled to Gordon on Tuesday, then will travel to ABAC on Thursday and West Georgia on Saturday to end the regular season of play. The Bobcats are still in first place in the conference with an impressive 22 and 5 conference record and 29 and 14 overall record, which are both new school records for wins!
In Lady Bobcat Softball news, the team took on South Georgia State College on April 26, 2018 for their last regular season home game, defeating them in game one 10 – 2 and game two 2 – 0. The Bobcats then traveled to Georgia Highlands on Sunday, April 29, to compete in their last two conference playoff-qualifying games. In game one, the Lady Bobcats hit a sixth inning homerun to capture the victory 3 to 2 over Highlands. In game two, the Lady Bobcats were in a one to one battle through five innings of play, with Highlands scoring a run in the sixth inning to go up two to one. The Bobcats got two runners on base in the top of the seventh inning, but were unable to get them across home plate. The Lady Bobcats’ season came to a close for 2018 with an impressive regular season of 27 and 14 and a conference record of 16 and 12. EGSC is proud of Coach Becca Hewitt, Coach Sutton Appling, and the Lady Bobcats for their great season!
The Bobcat Baseball team’s final regular season game will be held Saturday, May 5 at West Georgia beginning at 3 p.m., and the conference tournament will be May 9 – 12 at Gordon State College in Barnesville. Go Bobcats!
