FEDERAL WORK-STUDY POSITIONS |

OVERVIEW A student employee is a part-time employee who is currently enrolled in at least a half-time credit load (6 credit hours) at East Georgia College with the primary goal of achieving a degree. A student employee is considered a temporary employee and is not eligible for benefits. Student employees can perform many jobs within an office or department such as clerical support, computer lab assistant, library aide, tutors, etc. All student workers must complete an "Application for Student Employment", "new hire" employment paperwork and post hours in the ADP system. At the beginning of each semester, student employees must complete an updated "Application for Student Employment" and submit to HR with the appropriate signatures. Administered through the Office of Financial Aid, the Federal Work-Study Program (FWS) is a federally funded financial aid program offered to students that have a demonstrated financial need. ELIGIBILITY The Federal Work Study (FWS) program is a federally funded Title IV student financial aid program designed to provide work opportunities for students, enabling them to earn funds for meeting educational expenses. In addition, the program provides an opportunity for students to gain work experience in their areas of academic and non-academic interests. To qualify for the FWS program a student must meet the following minimum requirements:
APPLICATION Since the Federal Work Study award is based on need, the student must apply each academic/award year for financial aid with the Office of Financial Aid. Currently, this process includes the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a East Georgia College institutional Application for Financial Aid. In order for a student to be considered for all available aid, it is imperative that these forms be completed by the priority deadline, June1 for entering freshmen and May 1 for all other students. DEPARTMENTAL INFORMATION All departments must post on-campus positions with the SEO and all students must apply for on-campus positions with the Student Employment Office (SEO). Students will be required to submit an application for student employment. Departments will set up interviews with individual students. Once a hiring decision is made, a formal offer to the student chosen will be extended. Once a student accepts the position, the new student employee may begin the paperwork processing to finalize employment. Note: If hiring a work-study student employee, the signed employment application form must be sent to the Financial Aid office after in-processing with Human Resources. ALLOWABLE WORK HOURS Students cannot work more than 19 hours per week or 48% time. Exceptions can be made during breaks such as Christmas, Spring break and summer. Supervisors are responsible for monitoring work activities and student abidance of employment policies and procedures. Note: Changes in student enrollment status may affect employment. ADP PROCESS Students must log in their time worked through the ADP system. Each department will be responsible for training new hires on the ADP system. PAY Federal work study students will be paid no less than the federal minimum wage. Students are paid bi-weekly. Student employees are encouraged to have their paycheck directly deposited into their bank account or Higher One account to ensure timely receipt of paycheck. Paper checks may be delayed up to a minimum of one week due to payroll processing. GENERAL RULES

Call Center RepresentativeGeneral Job Description and Duties: Position will assist in all areas of Student & Enrollment Services operations performing duties which involve well-defined procedures and techniques. Routine assignments are performed independently using some degree of initiative and judgment based on knowledge gained from experience. Primary responsibility is to serve as first point of contact for calls received in Student & Enrollment Services from faculty, staff, students, and the general public; Refers calls to appropriate ESS staff members as needed; Responds to emails received on departmental email accounts; Maintains departmental mail. Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma or GED is required. Customer service oriented with pleasant speaking voice, knowledge of Microsoft, ability to understand general policies, guidelines, and procedures, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Must have good oral, written communication, time management and prioritization skills. Must be able to multi-task and work independently with limited direction. Day/Hours to be worked: Flexible. Softball ManagerGeneral Job Description and Duties: Student will be responsible for keeping stats for both home and away games. Student will be responsible for reporting the stats to the softball coach in a timely manner. Student must report to all games on time, and complete other duties as assigned. Human Resources Student WorkerThe Office of Human Resources/Student Employment is seeking a Student Assistant or Work Study Student to assist with day to day clerical duties. Duties include: filing, copying, typing, preparing applicant response letters, and other duties as assigned. Student must be detailed oriented, possess excellent written and oral communication skills, basic computer skills, dependable, and must be able to maintain high confidentiality. Preference will be given to students who are majoring in business or who have worked in a confidential office setting previously. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources. Plant Operations Custodial PositionGeneral Job Description and Duties: This position will be primarily responsible for carrying out tasks assigned by the custodial supervisor. Those tasks include, but are not limited to: vacuum, sweeping, dust mopping floors, wet mopping floors, washing tables, washing windows, cleaning light fixtures, dusting computer stations, emptying and washing trash containers, helping with special event cleaning, and filling in during staff absences. Student will be expected to be punctual and complete tasks with limited supervision. Preferred Skills and Knowledge: Position requires standing, walking and/or crouching for extended periods of time. Applicant will also be required to use a six foot ladder on a regular basis. No experience is necessary, however, some cleaning skills and knowledge of cleaning equipment and chemicals is desirable. Days/Hours to be Worked: This is an evening position and candidates must be available to work after 6:00PM to be considered for employment. EGC Statesboro Position AvailableGeneral Job Description and Duties: Meet, greet and welcome visitors. Completing all task in an appropriately and timely, take incoming telephone calls and deal with such calls promptly in a professional manner. Student is expected to take detailed phone messages for faculty/staff as well as respectful to staff members, faculty, and students. General administrative duties include filling copiers/printers with paper, maintaining appropriate level of forms, and assist staff and faculty when needed. Must report to work on time and dress appropriately (conservative). Minimum Requirements: Student must be in good academic standing; preference is given to students who are out of Learning Support classes. Student must possess good customer service skills and telephone manners, also good verbal and written communication skills. Student must have the ability to alphabetize paper/filing and maintain confidentiality. Student must be proficient with computers, and the ability to work with diverse population. America Reads TutorGeneral Job Description and Duties: The primary function of this position will be to read to children and/or tutor children in after-school programs. Minimum Requirements: Experience in an office setting is preferred, but not required. Preferred Skills: Basic reading and people skills are needed. Days/Hours to be worked: Flexible - Student must work within the regular office hours from 8AM to 6PM, but there can be flexibility in the studentís work schedule. Student is expected to work when scheduled and call in when unable to work/will be late. Intramural Official / RefereeGeneral Job Description and Duties: Individual will be responsible for officiating and enforcing rules in scheduled intramural games/athletic events and sponsored or coordinated events by the EGC Student Life (Intramurals) Department. The candidate must possess the knowledge of game rules in order to officiate clearly, and the ability see plays and make accurate rulings. Candidate must be able to maintain order at all times. Must be able to clearly and concisely communicate with coaches, players, and sponsors. Candidate must be on time for games and events for which he or she is scheduled to officiate. Preferred Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of sports is desirable and Rules of Play in the game officiating. Prior experience in officiating. Ability to clearly see plays and make accurate decisions. Ability to traverse the court or field to monitor play. Must be able to make independent judgment within the limits of the position. Position: Computer Lab Assistant (Statesboro Campus)General Job Description and Duties: Monitor computer lab, ensure printers have paper and are working properly; verify users by checking and scanning IDs at the door; workers are expected to report to work on time and remain until shift is over; if student is going to be late or unable to work they are expected to call the supervisor ahead of time. Student worker must clean lectures and be able to enforce our no food and drink policy in the computer labs. Special Skills or knowledge: Must be an EGC student enrolled in at least 6 hours; must be familiar with EGC student programs; student must possess people skills, and be able to communicate with students/faculty/staff as they enter and occupy the computer lab. Check out recreation room equipment, record student name/time, and verify whether or not they are a current student; must be fair and impartial. Minimum Requirements: Must be work-study eligible. High school diploma or GED and great customer service skills. Preferred Skills: Must possess a strong verbal and written communication skills, and proficient with computer. Days/Hours to be worked: Flexible hours 8am-6pm Monday ~ Thursday and 8am-12pm on Fridays.
