1. What is the EGC “Technology Fee” and what does the fee cover?

 

A $50 technology fee will be included in EGC Swainsboro campus students' matriculation fees each semester. This fee is used to support the information technology services (i.e., Internet / Email access, wireless Internet, printing) provided to EGC students. The technology fee also provides each student a printing balance of 300 pages per semester for use in the EGC computer labs and library. Additional printing pages are charged at the rate of 10 cents per page and can be purchased online or on a "pay-as-you-print" basis in the EGC library or in the Statesboro Center computer lab. You must be currently enrolled and currently attending classes at EGC in order to utilize your 300-page print allowance. Unused pages are NOT refunded.

NOTE: EGC Students attending the EGC Statesboro location will be charged the current Georgia Southern University technology fee in order to utilize computer lab resources at Georgia Southern University.

2. What types of computer hardware and software are available in the student computer labs?

 

At the main campus, six computer labs are available that include a total of over 200 personal computers. At the Statesboro Campus, a computer lab housing 30 computers is available. In addition, students attending the Statesboro Campus can utilize the computer labs located at the Georgia Southern University Campus. Students are encouraged to utilize USB Flash Drives for storing their documents and files. These drives can be purchased at the EGC bookstore or at your local retailer. Each lab has Internet and Email access as well as laser printers. All campus computers are IBM compatible. The Microsoft Office Application Suite and other academic software applications are available in the labs. The college does not utilize Macintosh computers.

3. What times are the student computer labs available to students and where are they located?

 

What times are the student computer labs available to students and where are they located? Student Computer Lab (Room 524) is located in the Luck Flanders Gambrell Center and is open from 8:00 am until 7:30 pm, Monday thru Thursday and 8:00am -12 noon on Fridays. This lab is also open various Sundays during the semester from 1:30 pm. until 4:30 pm. The Student Computer Lab (Room B111) located in the Student Services Building is open from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday thru Thursday. The computer lab at the EGC Statesboro Campus is open from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday thru Thursday, and 8a.m. – 12 noon Fridays. The computer labs' operating hours are subject to change. Please refer to the online computer lab schedule www.ega.edu/computerservices/labhours.htm to view current operating hours. You must have an EGC student ID to use the two main Student Computer labs. You can obtain your student ID at the library, which is located in the Luck Flanders Gambrell Center.

NOTE: classes that are taught in computer classrooms have priority. Refer to the schedule listed on the college webpage www.ega.edu/computerservices/labhours/labsched.pdf or posted at the lab entrances for reserved times and days.

4. Is technical assistance available in the two main student labs?

 

A student assistant is available to assist with technical problems in the student computer labs. However, due to scheduling issues, there may be times during the labs' operating hours when a student assistant is not available.

5. Where are the offices of the Computer Services personnel located?

 

The main offices are in the George L. Smith II Building, which is located between the Luck F. Gambrell Building and the Student Services Building. There is also a Computer Services office located at the EGC Statesboro Center.

6. Do students have Email accounts?

 

All students are provided Email accounts via the college's email system. Students can check and send Email messages through the online WebMail program, which is accessible via the college's portal: myegc.ega.edu. Students can check and send email messages in the computer labs or from any computer that has access to the Internet. A student's Email address remains active for the duration of their enrollment at East Georgia College. For additional information about your EGC student email account, please refer to the EGC Campus Email policy at https://myegc.ega.edu/web/computer_services/polilcies.

Because the college utilizes the EGC student email address as a primary means for sending communication to students, the college cannot utilize a student's third-party / private email address (i.e., Yahoo, Hotmail, etc) for sending email messages to a student.

7. How do I obtain my EGC student Email account and password?

 

Using any computer connected to the Internet, go to https://myegc.ega.edu. Instructions are listed on this web page to assist students in obtaining their username and password. The link "Click here to retrieve your MyEGC Username" is available to look up your account information. Access to email (CatMail, Georgia View Vista and GoPrint) all use the myEGC credentials.

8. Where do I go to get my EGC student ID card?

 

EGC Student ID cards can be obtained free of charge in the EGC library, which is located in the Luck Flanders Gambrell Center at the Swainsboro Campus. A $5.00 fee is charged to replace a lost or stolen student ID card.

9. How do I obtain my EGC BANNER Web, GaVIEW Vista account information?

 

Access to BANNER Web and Georgia View Vista (GaVIEW) is provided through the myegc.ega.edu portal site.

Using any computer connected to the Internet, go to https://myegc.ega.edu. Instructions are listed on this web page to assist students in obtaining their username and password. The link "Click here to retrieve your MyEGC Username" is available to look up your account information. Access to email (CatMail, Georgia View Vista and GoPrint) all use the myEGC credentials.

NOTE: Georgia View Vista accounts are not created for new students until just before the semester starts and course enrollment data for existing students will not be available until a day or two before the official start date of the semester.

10. What is BANNER Web and GaVIEW Vista?

 

BANNER Web is the EGC student information system that students use to do things such as view their course schedules, grades, financial aid status and related financial information, as well as register online. GA View Vista is the EGC online course management system that students use to access online course materials, resources, etc., posted by faculty for the courses they teach. For EGC courses that are totally online, students will likely need a home computer that has Internet access.

11. Can I get computer-related supplies on campus?

 

Various computer supplies and goods (i.e., flash / USB drives, software applications) are available for purchase in the EGC bookstore, which is located in the Student Services Building at the Swainsboro campus.

12. Where can I find more information?

 

More information can be found on East Georgia College's webpage www.ega.edu. The "Current Students," "Academic Resources" and "Online Help" sections list information concerning services available to students. The college's course schedule is also accessible on the college web site in the "Calendars and Schedules" section.

13. Are there any computer lab restrictions?

 

No food or drinks are allowed in any of the computer labs. So as not to disturb others, cell phones are not to be used in the computer labs. The computer labs are for students, faculty, and staff use only. Please do not bring small children in the computer labs as doing so may disturb others. A college ID is needed to enter and use either of the two main student computer labs. You must present your ID when entering the lab. Security personnel randomly check student IDs to validate enrollment status.

14. Is wireless Internet access available at East Georgia College?

 

Wireless Internet access is available for students to use at the EGC Swainsboro campus and Statesboro Center. Wireless Internet access is available in all buildings at the main campus. Students should ensure that their laptop has a wireless network card that is 802.11b/g/n network compatible. In order to connect to the campus wireless network, students’ laptops must have an antivirus program installed, and the laptop must be current with Microsoft patches & updates. If your laptop does not have an antivirus program installed, you will need to purchase or download an antivirus program. Examples include Norton, AVG, McAfee and Avast. If students have problems accessing the wireless network, they should obtain assistance from a member of the college's computer services department. 15. May I download video and music files via the East Georgia College data network?

 

May I download video and music files via the East Georgia College data network? Users of the East Georgia College data network are not allowed to download video and/or music files to any workstation (college-owned or other) connected to the college's network. Please refer to the "East Georgia College Computer Services Acceptable Use Policy." 14. Does East Georgia College have policies and procedures relating to computer services and the utilization of these services?
