ADMISSIONS FAQs |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Can I take classes from East Georgia College before I graduate from high school? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Yes, you can, through our joint enrollment program, now referred to as ACCEL. The Georgia Student Finance Commission will pay tuition for 30 hours of degree credit for Juniors and Seniors of public Georgia high schools. Students will also receive $75 to $150 for books. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What if I attend a private institution? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| You may still attend during your Junior and/or Senior year, but not as an ACCEL Student. Students attending private institutions may enroll under the early admission program. The Georgia Student Finance Commission will not pay your fees, but EGC will pay your tuition charges through the East Georgia College Foundation for a maximum of 30 hours of degree credit. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What are the qualifications to participate in the early admissions or PSO programs? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| You must have a minimum combined score on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) of 970. You are required to have a minimum of 530 SATV (or 23 ACT in English) or SATM (or 23 ACT in Math) to take ENGL 1101 or MATH1111. You must have a minimum of a 3.0 high school GPA. You must be "on track" towards completion of your CPC coursework in high school. Students wishing to participate in the ACCEL program must submit a Tuition Grant form each semester. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What are the minimum general admission requirements for high school graduates? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| If you are a recent graduate or have graduated within the last 5 years, you are considered a traditional student. Traditional students are no longer required to have SAT or ACT scores. You must graduate from high school or have a GED. Students that receive a Certificate of Attendance will be required to get a GED. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Are all students required to take the SAT test? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Effective June 1, 2005, East Georgia College no longer requires the SAT or ACT for admissions. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What is the COMPASS placement test? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The COMPASS placement test is a computerized test used to determine the comprehension level of a new student. This test does not determine acceptance, only placement. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Are all students required to take the COMPASS placement test? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| No. If you have taken all 16 required CPC units in high school and scored a minimum of 430 on the SAT Reading portion or 400 SAT Math portion, you do not have to take the COMPASS placement test. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| There is a Reading, English and Math portion of the COMPASS placement test. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Will I have to take all three parts? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| No: only the part that you are deficient in. If you did not take 4 CPC English courses in high school, you are required to take both the Reading and English portions. If you did not take 4 CPC Math courses in high school, you are required to take the Math portion. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What if I did not take the 3 Natural Science, Social Science or 2 Foreign Languages? How will I satisfy those requirements? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| You will be required to take an additional course in the area in which you are deficient. The course will count in your cumulative GPA, but will not count toward degree credit. You must earn a minimum of a "C" in these courses. Only one course in each area is required. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What are considered passing scores for the COMPASS placement test? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| How will I find out what I made on the test? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What if I do achieve the minimum passing scores or am not required to test? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| You are eligible to take courses at your own discretion in collaboration with an academic advisor. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Can I retake the Compass Exam? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Yes, you can, but only one time. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Will there be a charge for re-testing? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Yes: $15 to re-test, no matter how many areas. Students must pay before they re-test and receipt must be presented to the test administrator before re-testing. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Who will accept the re-testing fee? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| You must pay in the Business Office. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| How will I know if I am admitted? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Following receipt of your admission application and all necessary supporting documentation, your application will be reviewed. You will receive a letter stating whether or not you have been accepted at the address you provided on your admissions application. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What do you mean by supporting documentation? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| All applicants are required to complete an admission application, provide official unopened copies of high school transcripts, prior college or technical school transcripts, and an immunization form. Failure to provide this documentation can prevent acceptance and/or registration. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Can I complete the Admissions Application online? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Yes. You can go to the GA College 411 website at www.gacollege411.org, or you can go to our website at http://www.ega.edu/admissions/default.htm. In either location follow the links to the online application process. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What do you mean by immunization? Immunized for what? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| All students must provide documentation from their physician, health department, etc., that they have been immunized for measles, mumps, and rubella, Meningococcal Vaccine, Tetanus-Diphtheria Vaccine, and proof of Chicken Pox's or the Varicella Vaccine unless they claim a religious exemption. Students that are 18 or younger at the time of matriculation will also be required to have 3 doses of Hepatitis B Vaccine. Student who claim religious exemption, in the event of an outbreak, will be asked to leave the campus. Also, under a new Georgia law, we are required to notify students they may also need to be inoculated for meningitis and hepatitis. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| If I am accepted, what next? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Your acceptance letter will include or be followed up by a letter telling you when and where to come to new-student orientation and registration. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Do I have to attend the orientation program? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Yes. Attendance is required, unless you are an ACCEL or Transient Student. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What is an orientation program, and why is it so important? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The orientation program is where you and your parents, if they so choose to attend, will find out "need-to-know" information about life as a college student. You WILL use the information provided at some time during the course of your academic career. This is also where you will get your East Georgia College Student ID. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| When will I actually be registered? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| At the end of the orientation program. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| You mentioned an academic advisor. How will I know who that is? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| At the new student orientation/registration, advisement is handled in a random manner. You will be advised and registered by your group leader. Prior to your first "early" registration for a subsequent semester, you can look online via Banner Web under the Student Services/View Student Information window with your User ID and PIN, or go by the Registrar's Office or academic department and determine the name of your permanently assigned advisor. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
