FAMILY MEDICAL LEAVE ACT

FMLA provides 12 workweeks of unpaid, job-protected leave in a rolling 12-month period for certain family and medical reason or up to 26 workweeks of leave for eligible employees to care for a service member with a serious illness or injury, as specified in the Military FMLA.

Reasons for Leave
Birth of Child
Placement with Employee of Child for Adoption or Foster Care
Employee’s own serious health condition
To care for child, spouse or parent of employee who has a serious health condition

Eligibility
Must be employed by the University System of Georgia for at least 12 months (need not be continuous)
Have worked 1,250 hours during the previous 12-month period (unless absent on military leave)
