The East Georgia State College softball has started their 2013 season, and they have done so with a winning record.
The Lady Bobcats have played three games, winning two of them. They won their first game of the season by a score of 5-3 over Southern Union Community College, lost game two against Faulkner State Community College by a score of 8-0, and then won their third game against Shelton State Community College by a score of 6-4.
The Lady Bobcats have 6 returning starters, including Laura Cardell, who led the team in HRs last year, Nikki Sims, and Brinsley Screws also contributed with their bats and fielding. Brittany Middleton was the leading pitcher from last year and off to a 2-0 start early on this year
Middleton is joined by Mallory Riner and Freshmen Courtney Jenkins on the pitching staff.
Beth Criswell is a freshmen from Dublin,GA that has stepped up to the plate leading the team with a .375 batting average and one HR. Whitney Smith a transfer from Middle GA also has a HR and a .300 batting average. Criswell and Smith are meshing well in a strong lineup with Cardell, Sims, and Screws.
Coach Megen Smith is liking what she sees early on from the Lady Bobcats, but knows that they can keep improving. The Bobcats are working hard and everybody is expecting them to put together another successful season with such a good returning cast from last year’s team and the transfers and freshmen that have joined the team.
