East Georgia State College’s newly constructed “Bobcat Villas” has been presented the Associated Builders and Contractors 2012 Excellence in Construction Award. The on-campus student apartments have been filled to capacity since opening in fall of 2011. Bobcat Villas was designed by architect Kevin Palmer and associates and Jackson Kane of  Lord, Aeck, and Sargent and constructed by Fortune-Johnson General Contractors.

“Each year there is an effort to recognize the very best construction projects in the industry. Competition is strong as this is a highly regarded award and many entries are submitted.  A panel of judges representing a cross section of the industry including property owners, architects and construction leaders meet to review the contestants in detail. The “Award of  Excellence” is the top award presented and is awarded based on overall appeal, design and finished quality, energy and environmental design, project budget, safety, quality controls, innovative solutions, and meeting professional design team expectations,” stated Vice President Jim Fowler of  Fortune-Johnson Contractors in Norcross.

“We are very proud of the role in the development and construction of Bobcat Villas! This project was under the ‘institutional category’ which competed with many more larger and more expensive projects up to 25million dollars, explained Mr. Fowler. He continued, “It was a very rewarding experience as a strong team of dedicated individuals worked hard to bring this important project in on time and on budget and at the high level of quality all could be proud of!”
